Find peace and relaxation where Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965), «jungle doctor» and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, already spent his summer holidays from 1901 to 1909 (without 1907) and found inspiration. The motto of the 9th Grimmialp Days 2023 is «The Power of Music». You can expect a varied programme with a lecture, concert, excursion, small ideas workshop and a church service at the end. All those interested are very welcome!
The public knows Albert Schweitzer primarily for his ethics of «reverence for life» and his tropical hospital in Lambarene. Less well known is that he was also a named musicologist, concert organist and scholar of organ building. But first and foremost, music was an essential source of joy and strength for Schweitzer. Without this source of strength he would not have been able to achieve his great achievements. On the weekend at Grimmialp we will explore the role of music in Schweitzer's life in a variety of theoretical and practical ways. This is not only with a historical interest, but with the intention of making the power of music fruitful for us today.
