best season
After refreshments at the Gsässweid inn in Springenboden, the five-hour hike up to the Niesen summit begins. The magnificent distant view is your constant companion. On the way, the Hoschüpfe viewing platform offers breathtaking views of mountain peaks, Lake Thun and the wide valleys of the Simmental and Diemtigtal valleys. After 1243 metres in altitude, there it is: the Niesen summit. Enjoy your time up here before the Niesen cable car takes you back down to the valley.
The mountain trail is marked with yellow direction signs and leads from "Springenboden" via "Unterer Drune" to the "Hoschüpfe" viewing platform. From here the trail leads via "Geeri" and "Chummli" to "Untere Stalde" and via "Obere Stalde" up to the summit and the Niesen mountain station.
Those who would like to extend the hike as a two-day excursion can book an overnight stay with breakfast at the Gsässweid inn on Springenboden and end the day of arrival high up in the Diemtigtal in the home of Wenger Kilian. Groups are also very welcome. Info + booking: www.gsaessweid.ch (in German only)
This hike is part of the bookable package "Panoramawanderung Springenboden-Niesen" with car transfer from Oey-Diemtigen to Springenboden and train ride from Niesen Kulm to Mülenen. Outside of this offer, the arrival and departure is inconvenient.
