The starting point for the five-kilometre snowshoe tour is the Gsässweid car park (Springenboden) high up in the Diemtigtal Nature Park. The trail is marked - but you make your own tracks with your snowshoes. The ascent to Ottenschwand and Neuenstift is rewarded with an impressive panorama of the rear Diemtigtal and Simmental valleys. From the highest point, the descent takes you across snow-covered alpine meadows past lonely alpine huts and striking sycamores. Will you also discover a giant snow sculpture?
Follow the marked tour from the Gsässweid Inn (Springenboden). After the first ascent, Alp Ottenschwand offers an impressive panorama of the rear Diemtigtal and Simmental valleys. From the highest point at Neuenstift, the descent leads over snow-covered alpine pastures past lonely alpine huts over Ahorni (location of the fireplace of the Swiss wrestling trail and Kompotoi toilet) before you reach the starting point back at Springenboden. The trail is signposted with pink direction signs and a snowshoe symbol.
The hiking time depends on the amount of snow and the nature of the route as well as your physical condition. On site you will find moderately steep terrain with occasionally steeper passages in the ascent and descent. A certain level of surefootedness is required for the tour.
If you walk the snowshoe trail in the opposite direction, you don't have the beautiful panorama behind you, but always in the walking direction.
Motorway A6 Bern direction Zweisimmen, 1 km after the Simmenfluhtunnel turn left direction Diemtigtal. Follow the Diemtigtal road into the valley for 8 km until Horboden. Turn left here and follow the signs for "Springenboden" (6 km).
There is a large signposted car park between the Springenboden restaurant and the Gsässweid Inn.
By train to Oey-Diemtigen station (Spiez-Zweisimmen line). Continue by post bus to the "Horboden, Wirtschaft" stop. From here Springenboden can only be reached on foot (approx. 1 hr. 30 min.). On request there is a transport service to Springenboden: T 079 616 90 45 / T 079 664 08 60 / T 079 669 31 14.
The snowshoe trail leads past a covered fireplace and a toilet (Kompotoi). Flyers with an overview map are available from the Diemtigtal Nature Park office.
