A Jutz brings the sunshine back into the valley

A new adventure for all Grimmimutz enthusiasts

The story by author Peter Zahnd recounts how the old Pepper Witch curses the valley turning Grimmialp into a dark and colourless place. With the help of an elf, they manage to defeat the curse. The elf gives Grimmimutz a special gift: yodelling. People who sing and yodel have a sunny outlook and are stronger than the darkest energy. From that day on, Grimmimutz leaves the forest every day to go to the alp and yodel his jutz. With his voice, he fills the valley and even the birds join in. More and more people start yodelling and help Grimmimutz bring the sunshine back into the valley.

Be part of this mission and bring back the colour into the valley with your jutz to free it from the old Pepper Witch’s curse. Follow the traces of the first interactive Grimmimutz fairy tale on your phone!

A yodel song by Miss Helvetia and its app

Solve the quest and learn how to yodel with Miss Helvetia, a well-known Swiss yodeller. This new app unites the magical mountain landscape playfully with Grimmimutz’ mythical world. Discover the Waldmandli Grimmimutz (a mythical forest dweller) in the scenic Wald-Pano, catch the witch on her wild ride or learn about the magical world of flowers, mountain herbs and animals surrounding you.

The nine activity stations require some problem-solving abilities, quick swiping and clicking with your fingers and of course your talent in singing and yodelling. The last activity station is the most important one. You’ll get access to the GrimmiJutz-Stübli which is decorated with music instruments. Are you and your family ready to sing the GrimmiJutz together from the bottom of your hearts?

The free Diemtigtal app is in Swiss German/German. We suggest downloading it on your smartphone beforehand, either at home or at your accommodation.

The hiking trail

The mountain trail is 6 kilometres long and begins at the rear of the Diemtigtal (Diemtig valley) at the Grimmialpbergbahnen’s mountain station. The hike is open at weekends from mid-June until October. During the summer and autumn holidays, it is even open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. The chairlift brings you easily up to the start.

Please inform yourselves on grimmialp.ch about the opening times of the chairlift before leaving your home or accommodation. In case of heavy rain, wind or thunderstorms the chairlift will be closed for safety reasons. This may also happen at short notice.

Is the new GrimmiJutz hiking trail suitable for us?

Wooden signposts lead you from the Grimmialp chairlift mountain station along a 6 km mountain trail, taking you back to the valley station. The pure hiking time is around 2 hours (ascent 126 metres / descent 611 metres). However, the excursion may take longer, depending on how long you want to spend yodelling. The mountain hiking trail is suitable for children from the age of 6. We recommend wearing hiking shoes. The trail is not accessible for pushchairs.

Eating and drinking during the hike

Along the GrimmiJutz experience trail you’ll find two barbecue sites. Towards the end, where the new hiking trail joins the Grimmimutz adventure trail, there are more barbecue sites where you can take a break. Firewood is provided. Don’t forget to bring food for the barbecue with you!

At the Grimmialp chairlift mountain station there is a kiosk with snacks and drinks for the hike. The InfoPoint at the end of the Grimmimutz adventure trail is open in fine weather on weekends and additionally on weekdays during school holidays. Here you can not only buy popular Grimmimutz merchandise but also delicious snacks and ice cream. A small selection of locally made products completes the offer.

Donation ffor the maintenance of this new trail

The Diemtigtal app is free. However, your donations are important for the maintenance of the trail and the app. You can make your donation at the GrimmiJutz-Stübli (activity station no. 9) or through the app. Find all information about the costs and the use of the chairlift on grimmialp.ch.

Please be respectful to nature

Like the Grimmimutz adventure trail, the new GrimmiJutz trail leads you through cultivated pastures. Please heed all signposts and notices you encounter during the hike. The farmers and their animals thank you for your collaboration.

Being sustainable on the GrimmiJutz trail

A project like the GrimmiJutz Yodel Experience needs to be well planned, especially if it is in a nature park. A sustainability analysis conducted by the Zurich University of Applied Sciences ZHAW proves that the GrimmiJutz experience obtains good and even very good results in terms of ecology, economy and society. The project fits in well to the Diemtigtal, considering its content and socio-cultural impact and specific target. It is embedded softly into the landscape, with minimum interferences and employs existing paths and infrastructure. The use of public transport and the cable car is part of the experience, and we actively promote it.

The analysis provides a good basis for regular sustainability and quality checks as well as the future development of the GrimmiJutz Yodel Experience.

A huge thank you to our sponsors and all project members

The creation of the GrimmiJutz Experience was only possible thanks to generous donations.

Our sincere thanks to you and to all our elves who believe in this project and are committed to making it a success:

  • Pamela Ulmann
