The beautiful and varied cultural landscape of the Diemtigtal offers many birds a home. The bird route leads you through numerous habitats of native bird species. Watch the nursery of a pair of swifts live with a nest camera or test your knowledge of bird calls. Along the way, many surprising facts about the bird world await you.Â
The populations of many bird species are declining sharply. The reason for this is often the lack of habitat, which we humans change for our purposes. A long-term goal in the Diemtigtal is therefore to provide rare species with better living conditions again. With the help of the local population, landowners, and the Sempach Bird Observatory, various projects are underway to promote our bird world.Â

Directions
Follow the bird route from Oey-Diemtigen train station or the Oey marketplace to the Wiedmer shoe shop and from there via Grafestei, Zälg to Bächlen. From there, the path leads to the Gruebi, where the Ofehüsi awaits you as a refreshment option. Down to the valley floor, you hike along the valley trail to the covered Katzenloch fireplace. Follow the Chirel to the marketplace or further back to the Oey-Diemtigen train station. The route is marked with white directional signs and a green route marker.Â
Shorter alternative route:
To Zälg, from here the path to the Katzenloch fireplace can be shortened (2.8 km)
Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author
After your hike, visit the > Diemtigtaler Bird World in the Diemtighuus in Diemtigen. The exhibited animal specimens show a large part of the rich bird life of the region.Â

Along the way you will find a covered fireplace. Don’t forget cervelat, pocket knife and drinks for the journey!
Directions & Parking facilities
Motorway A6 Bern direction Zweisimmen, turn left 1 km after the Simmenfluhtunnel towards Diemtigtal. Follow the Diemtigtal road uphill into the valley for 4 km to Oey village. The marketplace is located 200 meters after the railway crossing on the right side.Â
Free parking is available at the marketplace (200 meters after the railway crossing on the right side). Alternatively, there are paid parking spaces at the Oey-Diemtigen train station.
Take the train to Oey-Diemtigen station (Spiez-Zweisimmen line).
