  • Destination: Matten i.S. train station

The hike connects the Diemtigtal Nature Park with the municipality of St. Stephan and offers you beautiful panoramic views over the Diemtigtal and the upper Simmental from the Grimmifurggi.

Your pass hike and thus the ascent to Grimmifurggi starts at the back of the Diemtigtal Nature Park, where the two municipalities of Diemtigen and St. Stephan meet. This ascent is a reason to be happy because something not quite ordinary awaits you in the Grimmi area: the iron-rich spring of the Grimmi water stands out amidst alpine pastures and fascinates with its red color.

At Grimmifurggi you have a panoramic view of the rear Diemtigtal and the upper Simmental and feel surrounded by a variety of impressive mountain peaks. Directly below you stretches the lonely Färmeltal with its wild barrenness - perhaps a suitable excursion destination for your next hike?

Do you want to gain even more altitude? From Grimmifurggi, the Rauflihore/Bluttlighore (2323 m asl) is reachable via a grassy ridge in 1 hour 15 minutes (round trip) before you tackle the descent via countless alpine meadows to the station of the hamlet Matten (St. Stephan).

Directions

The ascent begins at the Senggiweid parking lot, 400 m after the post bus stop «Grimmialp» and initially follows the Grimmimutz adventure trail to the station «Wizard's staff carving». Here, the path turns left and winds through the shade-giving mountain forest in many curves up to Alp Grimmi. Just after the mountain restaurant at Alp Grimmi, a short detour to the iron-rich spring of the Grimmi water is worthwhile, before you tackle the last part of the ascent to Grimmifurggi. Here you leave the Diemtigtal Nature Park behind and continue hiking downhill via Almi to Dachboden, from where you can enjoy the final views of the mountain peaks of the upper Simmental. Through the Höje forest, you then reach the village of Matten and thus also its train station.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

Anyone wanting to shorten the hike’s ascent can do so with the chairlift of the Grimmialp cable cars (opening hours to be observed: grimmialp.ch).

Equipment

Good mountain shoes, possibly hiking poles, weather-appropriate clothing (sun/rain protection), a pocket first-aid kit, backpack with provisions and enough drinks for the hike

Safety guidelines

Your hike leads you through a variety of pastures - always keep your distance from the four-legged alpine residents.
